Common Questions
WHAT DO I NEED TO FLY?
To get airborne, you’ll need a wing, a motor, and a helmet with ear protection. Many pilots also prefer radios for communication, strobes for visibility, and the added safety of a reserve parachute. There’s no need to shop around — we offer a variety of top-tier paramotor and wing brands to suit your needs. We’ll guide you through assembling and setting up your gear to ensure everything is safe and ready for flight.
IS POWERED PARAGLIDING SAFE?
Powered paragliding can be very safe when approached with proper training, good judgment, and respect for weather conditions. Like any form of aviation, there are risks, but quality instruction dramatically reduces them. Our training emphasizes safety, decision-making, weather assessment, and proper equipment handling so you can become a confident and responsible pilot.
DO I NEED ANY PREVIOUS FLIGHT EXPERIENCE?
Not at all! The vast majority of our students have never flown anything before. We start from the ground up, teaching you everything from wing control and weather to launching, flying, and landing safely.
HOW LONG DOES TRAINING TAKE?
Everyone learns at a different pace, but most students complete their training over several weekends. Rather than rushing you through a set number of days, we train until you’re confident, competent, and safe enough to fly independently.
DO I NEED A PILOT’S LICENSE?
No. In the United States, powered paragliders are regulated under FAA Part 103 and do not require a pilot’s license, aircraft registration, or medical certificate. You are still responsible for understanding and following FAA regulations, which we cover during training.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?
Safety always comes first. If conditions aren’t suitable for training, we’ll simply reschedule your lesson. Paramotoring depends heavily on favorable weather, so flexibility is part of becoming a pilot.
HOW HIGH CAN YOU FLY?
Most recreational flights take place between 500 and 2,000 feet above the ground, although FAA regulations allow higher altitudes in many situations. Some pilots enjoy low scenic flights, while others climb higher for incredible panoramic views.
HOW FAST DO PARAMOTORS FLY?
Most paramotors cruise between 20 and 35 mph depending on the wing, wind, and trim settings. Your actual ground speed may be faster or slower depending on wind direction.
HOW LONG CAN YOU STAY IN THE AIR?
Most flights last between 1.5 and 3 hours on a tank of fuel, depending on your engine, conditions, and flying style. Many pilots choose to land well before running low on fuel.
CAN I FLY YEAR ROUND?
Yes! We fly throughout the year whenever weather conditions are safe. Spring and fall typically offer the smoothest conditions, but excellent flying days can happen in every season.
HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE?
There is no strict age limit, but students should be mature enough to follow instructions and safely operate the equipment. We’ve trained pilots from teenagers to retirees. Contact us if you have questions about your specific situation.
CAN I FLY IF I’M NOT VERY ATHLETIC?
Absolutely. While reasonable mobility is helpful, powered paragliding is enjoyed by people of many fitness levels. We offer both foot-launch and wheel-launch training, allowing many students who cannot run comfortably to enjoy the sport.
IS THERE A WEIGHT LIMIT?
Don’t let your weight or physical condition stop you from learning to fly a powered paraglider. We teach wheel launch and foot launch powered paragliding, so we can accommodate most anyone — there is equipment for nearly all people regardless of size. In special cases you may need specialty gear up front to learn on — reach out and let’s talk about a custom plan for you.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR TRAINING?
Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather and closed-toe shoes. During cooler months, dress in layers. Gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, and water are also highly recommended.
CAN I BRING FRIENDS OR FAMILY TO WATCH?
Absolutely! Friends and family are welcome to observe your training from designated safe areas. It’s a great way for them to learn about the sport and cheer you on during your progress.
SHOULD I BUY EQUIPMENT FIRST?
NO! We recommend consulting with us before purchasing any gear to ensure it’s the right fit for your size, experience, and intended use. The most common mistake we see is students buying gear that’s not suited to them. If you already have gear, no worries — we’ll train you on it if it’s safe and suitable for your experience level.
CAN I BUY GEAR FROM MOJO’S?
Absolutely! We are a full-service Powered Paragliding company partnered with some of the best brands in the world, offering the lightest and highest-quality equipment available. When you buy from us, you gain access to expert service and our full support — and purchasing locally helps strengthen the Mojo’s community.
WHAT BRANDS OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU SELL?
We carry equipment from several of the industry’s most trusted manufacturers. We’ll help you choose the wing, motor, and accessories that best fit your experience level, body size, and flying goals rather than pushing a one-size-fits-all package.
HOW MUCH DOES GEAR TYPICALLY COST?
All gear is not considered equal — you’ll pay a little more for lighter gear, better durability, and quality. Expect approximately: wings from around $3,200, motors from around $7,500, and about $1,500 for helmets, reserves, and accessories. That’s about the price of a private pilot license, a motorcycle, or a bass boat — with a fraction of the maintenance and fuel costs, and no insurance required!
DO YOU OFFER TRAINING GEAR?
Yes! We offer a wide range of motors and wings for you to use during your training, allowing you to explore different options and find the best equipment for your needs — and if cost is a concern, time to save up without rushing into a purchase.
WHEN DO I NEED MY OWN EQUIPMENT?
We do require you to purchase your own equipment within your first 10 flights. You become a better pilot when you train on the equipment you’ll actually be flying. Consistency builds confidence and improves safety by reducing the risks that come with switching between different setups.
DO YOU SELL GIFT CERTIFICATES?
Yes! Gift certificates are available for Intro Days and flight training and make an unforgettable gift for birthdays, holidays, graduations, or special occasions.
DO YOU OFFER CONTINUED SUPPORT AFTER TRAINING?
Yes. Graduation isn’t the end of your journey. We’re always here to answer questions, inspect equipment, provide guidance, and help you continue growing as a safe and confident pilot.
